MISSION
AIR SEVEN IS AN ARTIST RESIDENCY PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES SPACE AND TIME FOR ARTISTS TO WORK ON THEIR PROJECTS WHILE ALSO CREATING AN OPPORTUNITY FOR CROSS CULTURAL POLLINATION; CONNECTING URBAN ARTISTS AND RURAL RANCHERS THROUGH MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL EXPOSURE TO ART AND LAND STEWARDSHIP.
About the program
A.I.R. SEVEN offers an artist residency program on Sieben Live Stock Company, a 5th generation family run cattle and sheep ranch in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains,Cascade, Montana. The residency was created with the intention of bringing two worlds together; a cultural emersion and educational platform that can enrich the lives of both artist and rancher. The residency affords the artist time and space for focused studio work/experimentation of new ideas. Artists live and work in Jane's Cabins, a compound comprised of original homestead cabins built in the 1800s/early 1900s.
EXPECTATIONS:
Jane's Cabins are an important feature of the ranch that provides space for A.I.R. SEVEN, in that they represent and hold the history of the land, operations, and people. As such, selected artists are required to care for the cabins throughout the duration of their residency.
EXPECTATIONS AND CONSIDERATIONS:
-
Upkeep and maintenance to cabins and grounds, without interference of ranch crew and operations.
-
Yard must be watered, mowed, and trimmed on a regular basis.
-
Artists are responsible for their own materials/and getting materials to the residency.
-
Artists are responsible for their own meals and groceries.
-
One to three month commitment (with some flexibility therein).
-
Artist talk/show expected at the end of the residency for the local ranch community.
-
The residency is an hour and twenty minutes away from the nearest grocery stores. Bringing our own vehicle is ideal but not required.

Jane's Cabins were named after Jane Goodsill Hibbard, an advocate for the arts and supporter of art programs in both Great Falls, MT and Helena, MT.

APPLY TO A.I.R. SEVEN
A.I.R. Seven is a work in progress. Before applying, please note that you must be willing to mow, water, and care for Jane's Cabins and grounds as a mutual exchange. Artists may choose a fairly minimal "work" schedule that suits their needs, which can be worked out upon arrival. A sample schedule would be 1 hour per day dedicated to chores, or 1 day per week dedicated, etc. Presently, A.I.R. Seven has limited availability and is only open to artists June 1st- September 15th due to unpredictable weather. Please include your most recent CV (if uploading is an issue, please email the CV to residency.seven@gmail.com), description of your practice, as well as a brief statement explaining what you hope to gain/give/achieve while in residence. Bonus points if your project is site specific, incorporates/integrates ideas of land, land stewardship, and culture, or if your project uses elements found in nature. It's also helpful (but won't be held against you) if you choose to drive your own vehicle out here. The nearest airport is Great Falls, MT, which is about an hour and ten minutes away, and has all main convenient stores and amenities.
